About Odyssey

Who am I?

One of the things I love about the breed that I discovered quickly is that they are a lot of “big dog energy” in a small package. A chihuahua with the correct temperament will go on hikes, travel and sightsee, do sports, and at the end of the day, curl up next to you in bed. However, I found that there was not a lot of breed representation in the various sport venues I competed in nor had many people even met a well bred chihuahua. When looking to add another chihuahua to my growing pack, I realized that there was a heavy conformation focus for preservation breeders, and performance-focused kennels were not producing dogs that I felt were consistent with the breed standard. So there was the problem, and a niche that needed to be filled. In my breeding program, I will be focused on producing health tested dogs that conform to the breed standard and can be competitive in the show ring as well as in performance sports. The dogs I am selecting for my breeding program have higher energy and drive than what someone breeding solely for the show ring may want. I will be looking at the whole package: biomechanics/angulation, movement, conformation, temperament, biddability, drive (food and toy), aesthetics, and health. My current breeding dogs go from the show ring, to the rally ring, to FCAT, and have dabbled in agility. They have passed CGC and ATT with ease and hold trick dog titles. Future sport venues for us include barn hunt, scent work, AKC agility, and possibly even dock diving.

About my Chihuahua program

Hello! My name is Alice and I am a veterinarian and dog enthusiast. By day I work in general practice and in my free time I compete in various venues with my dogs. My love for dogs and dog sports started with Australian Cattle Dogs, a breed I met on a working cattle ranch. I met my first well bred long coat chihuahua at agility class. Not long after, I obtained my first chihuahua, Cerberus (H&H Rule of Threes), and I’ve been involved in the breed ever since.
